Matti Söderkultalahti - Contemporary Finnish Woodturning

Matti was born in 1978 in Evijärvi, Finland and started woodturning around the age of nineteen. He has already distinguished himself by winning several awards for his creations. Many of his wooden objects start from selected logs like oak, elm and ash, which he then turns green (wet). Matti often allows the natural drying process to influence the shaping of final forms as they eventually twist, warp and move in interesting and sometimes unexpected ways. He feels that he is “collaborating with nature.” FAVM is pleased to feature Matti Söderkultalahti in a virtual exhibition of Contemporary Finnish Woodturning.
